I’m ill, ill with some bronchial flu, nevertheless I am stuffing myself with pancakes and all things starch… why? Because Lent is moments away.
Bye bye bread, pasta and potatoes. I love them too much. Lent is a time to give up something in order to encourage you to think upon the cross and the salvation the Lord won for you. That victory came at a cost and his cost deserves to be marked. The Church marks it with a time of mindful sacrifice and alms giving: Lent. So the point is by sacrificing something you enjoy, you will eventually crave, in the craving you are reminded of “why” and then you continue to mark His sacrifice by continuing on the road to Holy Week. It’s all about recalling his free sacrifice and remembering. It’s not a diet or a thing to do, it’s a blessing and a act of prayer, humility and worship. Don’t do it, if you’re not prepared to understand “why.”
So my thing last year was the beard… I hate the beard (Pippa loved it) it was scratchy and made me think. This year it’s starch. I lost 14 lbs this past summer, after the fire I began to eat, and gained 8 lbs. So this is a diet yet really it’s a Lenten observance since I love starch and I am doing this for the Lord.
Sunday… yes Sunday is always the day of Resurrection and so it is always a Feast Day and thus I can eat starch on Sunday. Let’s see how I manage.
I currently weigh, for those who will follow the diet aspect of this, 221.5 lbs.
